Boston Bruins - Stanley Cup Champs

The Boston Bruins are the king of the NHL. With a 4-0 win over the star-studded Vancouver Canucks in Game 7, the Bruins are taking home the cup to Boston after a 39 year drought. Simply put, the Bruins deserved it. They were the tougher, more motivated team and they truly have the heart of a champion. With arguably the greatest sports city in the world behind them, the mighty B's broke the hearts of the people of Vancouver, along with many hearts in Canada. A Canadian team has yet to hoist the cup since 1993.

Of course the star of this series and the well-deserved Conn Smythe winner was Tim Thomas who stopped another 37 shots to earn his second shut-out of the entire series and a remarkable .967 save percentage for the series. The classy 37-year old would be the first to tell you that he didn't do it alone. He got help from his monstrous captain, Zdeno Chara who played a great game, stopping a sure goal with his giant legs and the entire Bruins defense played strong. The rookie, Brad Marchand score two goals and the other two were scored by the Canadian, Patrice Bergeron, who got redemption for his bitten finger during Game 1 by Alex Burrows.

With an all-around effort, the Bruins stunned the Canucks who had a 2-0 lead in the series and looked like they were walking towards their first Stanley Cup in their almost 41 years of existence. I would love to sit here and blame the failure on Roberto Luongo, after his classless comments towards Tim Thomas, but the entire Vancouver squad failed. Luongo's performance in Game 7 was alright, but not good enough. It surely wasn't as bad as his performance in Boston, but it wasn't as good as his other performances at home. The biggest disappointment from my eyes was the Vancouver offense. They have the last two scoring champs in the Sedin twins who were really not a threat during the finals. Ryan Kessler, who I believe is the true heart of the Canucks, was clearly injured and thus not as productive or threatening.

I do believe that the Canucks are a strong and resilient team and I am certain that they will return next season to make another strong run at the cup, but as of now, I am very happy that the Bruins and Tim Thomas are coming home with Lord Stanley's Cup. Congrats to the 2011 Stanley Cup champions, the Boston Bruins
